On the E ring TV show

I saw the E ring episode that featured the Christian terrorists taking over the mosque. I rolled my eyes because of the ludicruous plot idea. If the writer had bothered to research he'd've realized that in the 1400 years of conflict no Christians have ever taken over a mosque and either, took the worshippers hostage or massacared them.

Further, the hostage takers just mouthed generic we're in a holy war against the Moslems without any elaboration. Your average TV viewer would be stratching his head. The writer should've elaborated a bit more: like the wanted the Moslems to get a taste of the same dimmitude that Christians have faced; supporting the plight of the Copts in Egypt; To reverse Constantiople, to protest the beheading of Indonesian schoolgirls, the usurpation of sharia on secular life in Nigeria. There's no lack of ideas, historical events, greviences to justify their actions.

Now for the plot holes: only 4 guys?! C'mon no influences from the Beslan hostage event? No 30 or 40 guys armed to the teeth strapping bombs to their bodies and those of their hostages? How come none of the bad guys wore body armour? How come the guys were all whites? Why no Arab, African or Asian Christians; ya know the ones that suffer actual persecution? How come the bad guys only had 1 lookout instead of a dozen or so? Why was the writer afraid to include a law enforcement officer who sympathized with the hostage takers? Or better yet, a pompous Moslem from one of those 'public interest groups' demanding that the same cops they denigrate save the worshippers or else!

Frankly, I could've written a more gripping episode even if I have no idea of how to write a script. I'd've pilfered blogs and websites tracking Moslems shenanigans and the episode would've been a blast-literally.

Sobre l'anglès: no son tot pites i flautes

A la bitàcola Albion seedlings, hi ha un article sobre anglès i com es una llegua super-flexible i gràcies al fet que hi ha cap organisme central que la normalitzi, preserveix la llibertat. I es que pot deduir un cert enllaç entre llengües i llibertat. Deixant de banda aquest argument d'un romantisme inconscient que es pot discutir ad infinitum.

L'anglès com a llengua té les seves anamòlies. La més importants son precisament aquesta falta d'una autoritat lingüística ha permèsa que l'ortogràfia s'evolucioni de manera càotica que ha esdevinguda irracional encara que els commentaristes discrepen vivament amb mi sobre aquest punt. A causa d'aquesta ortogràfia mai normalitziada, els aprenenants es queixen- amb justificació- que escruire i lletrejar les paraules els els dificulten l'aprentisatge de la llengua. L'altre queixa- més personal aquesta vegada es la manaca d'una gramàtica normativa à la Grévisse o com aquell de Joan Solà

Com a professor d'anglès com a llengua segona m'exaspera que no hi ha cap gramàtica que dediqui una secció entera sobre la gramàtica històrica. Per exemple, les regles del plurals. Perquè les paraules que acabin en -ch prenen un ES en lloc del comù S. Perquè algunes paraules que acabin en Y es canvia aquesta per I abans d'afeixir el ES; però altres només s'afeigeix el S. Tots les gramàtiques que tinc o que que he llegits es dediquien a la mecànica: quan s'utilitza el punt i coma, el paral lalisme dels temps verbals, etc.

Es important per es tan típicament anglofòn passen a la pràctica abans de presentar la teòria o la història. Doncs, els aprenents no-anglofòns es perden i s'agreuja per que la majòria dels ensenyants tampoc saben i doncs recòrren a la cantillera Sempre ha sigut així o la regla no es clara. Respostes que infurien els aprenents. Doncs conclueixen que l'anglès es una llengua irracional i no entenen que ha esdenvinguda la dominant a través el mòn.
