Gee that didn't take long. Now it's the Phillipines' turn to go from ally to bedwetting, yellow, shitty, untrustworthy pariah. So for the next few months it's the Phillipines' turn to be haragued about how pathetic they are and such losers. Don't misunderstand me, the government not only shouldn't negotiate with these scumbags but should send its very, very best special unit to hunt these bastards down and kill them in such a manner that no other low life ever thinks about kidnapping another Filipino.
I know, I know, it's so much easier to cut a deal than to kill. So a word of advice to the jingopundits and other critics: by all means deplore the negotiations if they're confirmed but don't succumb to the temptation to insult Filipinos as cowardly pariahs 'cause you'll need their help again real soon and they'll remember the insults for some time. Hence they'll think twice before helping out. After all, if they're cowardly, yellow, fearful wimps than their help is completely useless isn't it?
Update: Well it's confirmed but before the American jingopundits foam at the mouth, they'll want to read Sassy's post and the comments therein. It appears that Gloria has decided with a mixture of extreme public pressure and some possible wiliness to ensconce itself in a potential Kerry administration. So remember jingopundits, it's not always about the Stars and Stripes
Yesterday, I read on the Net about the Justice department's very public musings about postponing the elections should a terrorist atack occur in America. It's curious isn't it that the same jingopundits who fulminated against Spain's cowardice at voting out the Popular party and perfidy in removing the troops so quickly from Iraq, stay silent when their own government muses whether or not to suspend one of the most important institutions of a democracy: voting.
It never occurred to Aznar, as unpopular and polarizing as he was, to postpone the elections. Yet, I haven't yet read anything by the jingopundits that decry the Bush administration's panicking, lack of fortitude or mock the sheer idiocy of the proposal. After all, don't the jingopundits always remind us that Americans voted in a presidential election during their civil war when the dangers were far more present?
I'm unimpressed by this trial ballon. It bespeaks of a growing loss of nerve by the Administration and a lack of confidence in the electorate that it'll vote for the 'wrong candidate'. More importantly, that the Justice department has even contemplated this proposal highlights a glaring flaw with the Bush administration: a certain tone deafness with respect to consequences of its policies and an unwillingness to learn from the past. If anything, the proposal should've alerted him to the political implications to the charges that he's surreptiously instituting a dictatorship, because his electoral victory remains suspect, and squash any proposals that would reinforce common, but false, prejudices about him.
